Justin Rosenbohm Updates

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 3/28/2008

Hi everyone,

I spoke to Mark last night and Justin's Surgery has been pushed back until May 14th. There is a nerve in the brain that has a lot of pressure on it, If Justin's blood pressure was to spike during surgery it cause the nerve to pop and would make Justin blind. The doctors want the pressure on the brain to ease up so they do not worry about that happening. Mark said Justin is doing very good. The new med's he is on has really cut the pain way down.

There will be a benefit for Justin on July 13th, I know this is the same weekend as Stanton but the date could not be changed.
I know i will not be in Stanton, I will be in Iowa to help Justin. When i get the info on the benefit i will pass it on.

Keep the calls and letters going to Justin

Thanks everyone you guys are the best.

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 3/20/2008

Hi everyone,

I just got off the phone with Mark (Justin's dad)
/*Justin is scheduled for surgery on April 2*/ for the first kidney, they will be taking about half of the kidney. They will give Justin about 4-6 weeks to recover and then the second surgery to remove 1/3 of the other kidney.

Mark said with the new pain killers Justin is on he is doing much better pain wise. Justin was able to walk around the hospital today while they waited to see the doctors. He still has pain just it is more manageable.
I asked about his vision and Mark said they see the eye doctor on Monday. Justin's vision is still not what it was before the first surgery, but it is getting better.

Mark said the doctor treating the Von Hipple has been doing this for over 20 years and the people he has treated are all still with us.... YEAH
That is something i wanted to hear. Mark said this doctor told them this is serious but very treatable. He also said this doctor made them feel good about what they where doing.

Justin seems good in spirits and just wants to start the recovery process.

We talked about the Joliet Division race and the time line will be close but it is very possible Justin could be with us at the Division race to hang out.
Mark said they will play it by ear right now. So we are gonna keep the plan as is and if Jay Hullinger gives us the ok.... we will start to setup everything and let everyone know.

BOMB.....You little fu....r, You get your ass moving and get yourself better.
We got us some partying to do my little brother...
I Lee Lones will have a OLD STYLE with ya on that Saturday night.
I know there will be about 100 or more people to join us.
So you take care bud and rest easy we are all out here thinking and praying for your speedy recovery.

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 3/13/2008

I just spoke to Mark and he told me that Justin saw the doctors yesterday and they will be doing surgery on the left kidney before April 1st. At this time they will be removing 50% of the left kidney. The doctors said that a person can have only 10% of a kidney and it will function fine.

They will give Justin 4 weeks to recover and then they will take 1/3 of the
right kidney. He will then be done again about 4 weeks.

As for the brain everything is looking good, Justin vision is improving slowly. They will NOT have to operate on the brain again.

They are going to do laser surgery on Justin's right eye to remove a small benign sis and that will be later.

The doctors put Justin on some new pain killers and they hope this will ease the pain until surgery.

So this is where we are at now.

Please read the thread about the Medical Fund..... We have decals being made and are in the process of getting somethings set up for the Indy div race.

Keep the calls and letters going.... Thanks to all for keeping this going...

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 3/10/2008

Hi everyone...

I just got off the phone with Mark and Justin is still in a lot of pain. They had to go to Iowa City to get more medication that Justin is on. They have him some thing i can remember the name and it is 10 times stronger than Morphine.  Justin has a lot of pain on his left side from the kidney problems. They go back to the doctors on Wednesday for the kidneys and they hope to get a surgery date set then.  Mark said Justin is listening to all the calls we make and he really likes them. He will try to start call backs very soon. He gets on the internet from time to time but  there is a problem still with his vision caused by another tumor on the brain causing pressure and effecting Justin right eye. They will worry about the eye after the kidney is handled.

I do not know if everyone out there that reads these threads know Justin is only 25 years old. When we say get well kid we mean it.... I just wanted people who do not know Justin,  that this kid is one amazing person. He will go out of his way to help people and racers alike. I will let you know what i find out on Wednesday after i talk to Mark or Justin.

Thanks Lee

These are the decals i will be getting made up.... $3.00 for 1 and  $5.00 for 2, all money goes to Justin's Medical fund

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 3/7/2008

Hello Everyone,

As most of you know, our NHRA Division 3 Superstreet Champion, Justin Rosenbohm, is fighting many tough battles right now. He is suffering from Von Hippel-Lindau Disease,--a relentless disorder in which tumors invade the body. Some are benign, while others are cancerous.

In the Spring of 2007, Justin lost all of the vision in his left eye due to this disease. Now a year later, Justin has been trying to recover from two brain surgeries, only to be attacked by painful cancerous lesions on both kidneys. There are benign tumors on his right eye and on his spine which will also need future attention, once the cancer on the kidneys is dealt with. He is facing all of this with a lot of courage and determination, and we pray every day for his full recovery.

We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support from this community--though hardly surprised, because to know Justin is to love and respect him. Many of you have been asking what you can do to help. So I wanted to let you all know about the "Justin Rosenbohm Medical Fund" which has been started to help with medical and related expenses. Thankfully there is some medical insurance, although coverage is minimal. Justin and his family are faced with an outstanding number of medical bills, with more to come in the future for additional surgeries and hospital stays. He has been unable to work since his first brain surgery in January.

If you would like to donate, you can do so by sending a check payable to the Justin Rosenbohm Medical Fund, and in the memo line of the check, write in account number 30341759. Please send your check to the following address:

First Central State Bank
1291 Eagle Ridge Road
Le Claire, Ia. 52753

If by chance money is raised above and beyond medical expenses, it will be donated to an organization dedicated to treatment and to finding a cure for Von Hippel-Lindau Disease. Hopefully we can all make a difference in eradicating this devastating disorder.

If someone could post this information on other sites and/or help to get the word out in any other way, that would be very much appreciated as well. We thank you all for your continued support of my nephew and his family.

If you have any questions, you can contact me by email, or you can call Justin's dad Mark, at 563-323-3139.

With much appreciation,
Pam Quinn

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 3/1/2008

I spoke to Mark today and they will be letting Justin go home today, He will be seeing the eye doctor and the kidney doctors next week. They will sched in the kidney surgery and then go on the the eyes. Mark said Justin feels good today, there still the vertigo and that could be from the med's he is on.

He will be taking pills for the pneumonia and they have him on stuff to reduce the swelling on the brain.  Justin is happy to get out of the hospital now, he would rather sit at home then sit there while they decide on what course to take.

that is what i have for now...... will keep updating as we go.

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 2/29/2008

I spoke to Mark Justin's dad last night. Justin is doing ok, They had another set back. Justin has a small case of pneumonia in one lung. He ran a very high temperature of 103.8* yesterday. They got the temp back down by last night. They are talking to the surgeon and they may operate

on both Kidneys at the same time now.   Justin said his vision is not

right again, they checked and there is swelling again on the brain. He will see the eye doctor today.  Mark said one good thing is there is no sign of cancer on the liver.

He did say there was one very small spot on the pancreas but the doctors where not concerned with it. They want to take care of the kidneys first and then back to the swelling.

I asked Mark if we can do anything and he said just keep the calls and letters going. Justin is going through a lot right now and still has his spirits.

I could only imagine what he is going through. Mark said he will call and update as we go along.

Please add Justin to any prayer chains and keep him in your thoughts.

Eddie you hit the nail on the head today... We all are on here complaining about gas prices and entry fees and new rules and sitting in traffic.

It all means NOTHING ....... when something like this hits us.

Justin you get yourself strong, you get a little better everyday and soon we will be sitting on the back of your trailer with a beer and telling lies and making fun of Cyrus and your black socks and Old Style.

Keep the calls and letters going everyone.... we have a long road ahead of us getting this kid backup and running.

I will update as we go..

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 2/26/2008

I just got off the phone with Justin's aunt Pam...... It is not the best news.

Justin had a ultrasound yesterday and the lesion on both Kidneys are cancer. Justin has what is called Von Hipple Lindau or VHL. This is a disease that forms tumors in the body. If they are on the brain like Justin had they are not cancer, But if they are attached to internal organs they are. The doctors said they will go in and remove the lesions on one kidney first and give Justin time to heel and then go in after the other ones. They do not know yet if the cancer has spread to the Liver or Pancreases. It is not known yet if he will have Kemo or Radiation. They want us all to know again how much Justin loves the calls and post on here.

I called the hospital and got the address and room number for Justin

The number to the hospital is: 319 356-2456

Please add Justin to any prayer chains and pass this info to all...
I will update as i get more info.

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 2/22/2008

I spoke to Mark last night and Justin's recovery is much slower than they hoped. Justin is still dealing with the vertigo and they are slowly taking him off the steroids. Mark said Justin is frustrated and it has been 2 weeks since the surgery and Justin thought he would be farther along than he is.They know this will take some time and have to be patient. Justin stays home all day and has the phone turned off but does check for messages. I asked if they are going to let Justin race this year. Mark said they do not know yet. Justin goes back to the doctor soon to have the stitches removed, they will also check his progress then. Justin has his good days and his bad days.... keep the calls and letters going. He needs all the encouragement we can give him.

UPDATE ON JUSTIN********************* 2/15/2008

I just got off the phone with Justin and he is out of the hospital and is staying at a hotel near the hospital today. He said the weather is kind of goofy and they did not want to get home just to turn around. He will be heading home tomorrow afternoon.

Justin said he feels much better but has a long way to go. The vertigo is still there and the doctors told him that will be there for a couple of weeks more. He said the pain is going pretty much, if he gets up to fast he will get light headed and the dizziness kicks in. He has a long road ahead of him but is on his way.

Justin wants everyone to know how much the calls and post mean to him. He wants to be sure we all know that. He said to call if you want, he may only stay on the phone a minute and if he doesn't answer leave a message and he will call back. It was good to hear his voice and he is getting to sound like the ol Bomb we all love

I will update as I get more info

I spoke to Mark, and Justin is scheduled for surgery on Friday morning for the tumor that is behind his eye.  Justin has had this tumor for a long time.   The tumor is non-cancerous. Justin has had a couple of rough days. He said he feels like he just got off a Merry-go-round. Mark said the surgery will take 6 - 7 Hours. The Doctors feel very confident they will get the tumor out with no major problems.
