New Scoreboards Up and Running!
After a week's worth of headaches and working with technical support at Compulink Timing System and Daktronics, JJ Koehler of FSS Electronics was able to get the new scoreboards working at Cordova Dragway Park. "We had to go back to the drawing board and hard wire the components as we couldn't get the wireless system to work" said Koehler. "We hope in the near future when the issues get resolved we can get wireless working as it's much less susceptible to lightning strikes" he continued.
"I'm ecstatic that the boards are are working and they are awesome, said Track Operator Scott Gardner, now once the sponsor signage comes in we will get those signs in place and we will have the project completed" he mentioned. The Daktronics Boards are state-of-the art LED Drag Racing Displays with each board measuring 4 feet, 11 inches high and 22 feet wide. The digits alone measure 48 inches tall. Come see the new scoreboards in action this Saturday, April 28 at a Spring Fun Day race at Cordova Dragway Park.

DON’S JEWELRY PRESENTS THE
“RACE FOR THE QUEEN” CHALLENGE
“Win a Certified ½ Carat Custom Diamond Ring”
Don’s Jewelry of Clinton, Iowa is presenting a brand new program at Cordova Dragway Park called “Race for the Queen.”
Here’s how the program works. Every time a racer in the Cordova Dragway Park Bracket Points Program is perfect on either end of the track (.000 reaction time or dead on the dial with a zero) he/she will earn a Diamond Point. The first racer to earn 5 Diamond Points gets the ring - it’s that simple! So wives and girlfriends get those guys to Cordova Dragway Park and tell them that YOU want that one-half carat Diamond Ring! Or better yet, get behind the wheel and win it all by yourself. The diamond is already selected, in a vault for safe keeping and just waiting on YOU!
The Don’s Jewelry “Ring for the Queen” is just another great program at Cordova Dragway Park. Please be sure to thank the folks at Don’s Jewelry (in Clinton, IA) for their support of this awesome program.

WIFE OF LOCAL RACER PASSES AWAY
Sad news came to Cordova Dragway Park today as Gretchen Kruse, 30, of Port Byron passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2012. Her husband Sean has raced a blue Maverick in brackets over the past several seasons. "It's always difficult when someone within the racing family passes away, said Track Operator Scott Gardner, however this is even more difficult because of her age and their small children.
Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Hampton Cemetery. Visitation is 2-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family request that memorials may made to a fund for her children.

RAIN OR SHINE VOLUNTEER DAY
WILL HAPPEN TOMORROW,
SATURDAY, APRIL 14
It appears we must be getting closer to racing season as the forecast is calling for scattered showers and thunderstorms on Volunteer Day, Saturday, April 14 (my attempt at being funny). We do have inside projects and some outside things that can happen even if it's raining. Those include; painting the inside of the men's Bathroom and the inside of the tower and registration buildings. Additionally, picnic tables can be painted under the Pavilion and the floor on the stage needs replacing. We also have some mechanical jobs that can be done inside the maintenance building.
Projects will be getting underway at 9 AM and hopefully the rains will hold off until late in the day and both outside and inside jobs can be completed. We hope to see you here!
